Always been wondering where to get a good routable map for your gps device like Garmin Etrex 30? Here is the ultimate solution: At http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ you get custom-made maps for your adventures. I selected the necessary tiles from the Canada and USA section, they created this osm-map and I could download it for free! A donation is welcome and on its way ... The first email you get after sending off your selection tells you how many other maps are being processed and an estimation on the time needed for your request to be created - in my case it was 6 minutes - the second mail gives you a link for the download of a variety of files created from your selection. The whole map is only about 600MB big! I'll pop  it into my Garmin immediatey to try it out. Ok, you got me there, I'll have to create a new map first with "Germany" on the label .... 😉 . But I'll try the "Big" one out in BaseCamp. In any case I'm very thrilled by this great service! OSM-maps1 OSM-maps2
